Two longish narrative poems of mine have just been published in Modern Literature: “Kip’s Diner” and “Apertures,” linked by a common central character, Mr. Carter, a button merchant in downtown Los Angeles’s Garment District. I once operated a small (one-person) clothing design and marketing firm, almost all of whose products were made in Los Angeles, so I spent a lot of time dealing with suppliers down there, and also just wandering around downtown when I had the time. Also, I later managed an adult literacy program in a library branch near downtown, and went to dozens of meetings at the Central Library there. Both experiences informed these poems.
The magazine is published in India, a country that hosts more English speakers than the UK. It is my third time published in Modern Literature.
