Pretty hard-hitting, I realize, as I read it again. In fact, I started to tear up a bit myself, though of course I knew how it ended. Maybe one of my best. Let me know what you think of it.

Richard, I liked this story very much. You seem to have successfully dragged aspects of noir characters into our present that sadly lacks them. A hint of Bukowski, and a real sense of what is going on around us in the buying up of neighborhoods. I did not find it harsh at all, but so very sweet…with a real man’s sense of viewing a woman, but with total respect of the woman as a full person. I shared it on Facebook. Cheers!
